IMAJINE RSA Conference Lugano 2018

During The Regional Studies Association (RSA) Annual Conference in Lugano, Switzerland titled “A World of Flows: Labour Mobility, Capital and Knowledge in an Age of Global Reversal and Regional Revival”, the IMAJINE team consisting of Michael Woods (AU), Rhys Jones (AU), Sami Moisio (HU), and Mikko Weckroth (HU) presented a paper “Territorial Cohesion of what and why? Tracing the Meaning and Justifications for Territorial Cohesion and Policies from EU Documentary”. The paper is about the results from project’s deliverable “Review of Discourses of Territorial Inequalities in EU policies” (D1.2), and it was presented during the special session “Territorial Cohesion: from Theory to Policies” chaired by Marcin Dabrowski – Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. The presentation raised lots of interest and discussion in participants and served also as a good opportunity to promote the IMAJINE project in general.

The IMAJINE researchers Apostolos G. Papadopoulos and Loukia – Maria Fratsea (HUA) have presented a paper entitled: “Looking at Mixed Migrant Flows through the Lens of Social and Territorial Justice: Presenting Tentative Evidence from Greece” The paper’s objective was to provide a bridge between various facets of mobility with the concepts of territorial inequality and social/spatial justice. The paper elaborated statistical data from various sources and policy documents in order to come up with an assessment of migrants’ social and territorial justice. The existing substantial evidence will be critically discussed by using qualitative data collected through interviews with policymakers and stakeholders.

This conference was suited very well to the aims of the IMAJINE project as the RSA is the leading intellectual community addressing the subnational development of societies. The Association works with its international and interdisciplinary membership to facilitate the highest standards of theoretical development, empirical analysis and policy debate of issues at this sub-national scale.
